Buongiorno Venezia! Finally touched down in Venice after 3 years. After the pandemic-imposed hiatus, finally here comes the grand returns of La Biennale Di Venezia! The last time the Venice Biennale was held was in 2019, with the title "May You Live In Interesting Times." Well, after the "interesting" time we all have been through, the latest Biennale titled "The Milk of Dreams" surely delivers the dreams we have been itching for. The poetic view remains and the waterways still stay busy.
The Venice Biennale is the world’s most prestigious art exhibition, and it is considered the Olympics of the art world. Dozens of nations send their most promising artists to exhibit in pavilions and palazzos across the watery city. Both the emerging and established artists compete for attention while their governments seek cultural influences on the global art stage. For me, it was like seeing the world in one place with intense cultural values and experiences.
Let art go back to the force of culture and reflection of ourselves, or simply something that touches our souls and hearts!
There are two main venues, the Giardini and Arsenale Della Biennale, along with dozens of Pavillions by different countries across the water city. Here are my favorites and must see from Giardini Della Biennale from my first day after almost 20k steps and not feeling my feet:

Aside from visiting Venice Biennale, the Gallerie dell'Accademia di Venezia is presenting an ambitious presentation of both retrospective and new works by British artist, Anish Kapoor. The artist is known for his ability to explore the limits and materiality of the visible world through objecthood and invite wondrous and sustaining interaction. From early pigment sculptures and massive painted silicone installations to a series of his mirror works, each work is a solid expression and experiment. After following his works around the world, the interaction this time between the works and historic Palazzo Manfrin and the prestigious Gallerie dell’Accademia was something exceptional and unforgettable. I felt like I was being taken to another planet through his work and vision.
After the water city, we also visited Murano and stayed at the new Hotel NH Collection Venezia Murano Villa. From an old De Majo glass factory, the hotel retains some of the incredible historical architecture and now it has become a modern sanctuary in the Venetian Lagoon. Our waterfront suite was simply an elegant and cozy hideaway. Staying at Hotel NH Collection Venezia Murano Villa is a smart alternative if you don't want to feel claustrophobic on the over-saturated Venetian islands during peak travel seasons. It is only a 15-20 min boat ride from Venice, and you can enjoy the spa, outdoor lounge, and tranquility within its amenities.
For centuries, Murano is famous for its glass making. Murano's glassmakers held a monopoly on high-quality glassmaking for a long time, developing or refining many technologies. During my stay in Murano, I visited French Artist & Sculptor Aristide Najean's studio, where he creates and realizes his glass art. Aristide Najean learned the art of glass from the greatest master glassmakers in Murano, he utilizes his sense of light, colors, and shade in order to find a sculptural dimension through the glass with a contemporary touch. From his factory, studio, and art galleries to luxury homes around the world, you could find his works in which painting and sculpture blend with a unique sensibility. Every curve, detail, and color takes so many steps and a lot of time to achieve. It was so rewarding and interesting to see his team creating piece by piece from the fire and adding pigments into the body, then went to admire his glass works from the ceiling and walls to the floor. The best creation lies between tradition, legacy, and artistic impulse.
When the journey is filled with inspiring moments, visions, and concepts. Never stop learning and keep surprising yourself with art, culture, and travel. Venice Biennale, the Olympics of Art, is definitely a must-see and must-do this year!
