<Art> A special stop in Frankfurt when the Städel Museum (@staedelmuseum) presents one of its most compelling exhibitions of the year with Stillleben mit Gemüse by Elmgreen & Dragset (@elmgreenanddragsetstudio), an immersive intervention that transforms the museum into a psychological theatre of observation, illusion, humour, and unease. Unfolding across the institution almost like a treasure hunt, the exhibition encourages visitors to continuously question what belongs to the permanent collection and what has subtly entered through the artists’ intervention: a child sketching beneath Goethe’s portrait, an abandoned baby before a Pietà, suspended figures hovering above staircases, rows of empty office cubicles confronting the rituals of ambition, labour, and contemporary life.

Speaking with the Duo artists firsthand revealed how precisely every placement and interruption was conceived. There is also a fascinating continuation of the spatial and institutional dialogue they previously explored at the Musée d'Orsay, though here at the Städel, the experience feels even more expansive, spanning across centuries of art history, architecture, and perception itself. At a time when Frankfurt is simultaneously presenting major exhibitions dedicated to Monet and Bruegel, the city reaffirms itself as one of Europe’s most understated and layered cultural destinations.

<Travel> A rail travel experience of a lifetime...

There are few journeys left in the world where the movement itself becomes the destination. Aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express (@easternoriental) by @Belmond, we travelled slowly through the heart of Malaysia, from Singapore into jungle landscapes, fishing villages, George Town, Langkawi, and beyond, where restored vintage carriages, André Chiang’s culinary journey of spices, curated cultural encounters, and the enduring romance of rail travel created one of the most immersive experiences we’ve encountered in Southeast Asia.

What resonated with us most was not simply the glamour of the train, but the rhythm it restored: mornings shaped by shifting tropical light, evenings in the Piano Bar over jazz and candlelight, and the rare privilege of observing Southeast Asia slowly enough to truly feel connected to it again.

<Travel> Beyond the beautiful carriages and slow rhythm of the Eastern & Oriental Express (@easternoriental), one of the most compelling aspects of the experience was the way the journey opened a deeper connection to Malaysia itself through a series of carefully designed excursions and local encounters along the route.

As the train paused throughout the journey, we stepped into the everyday rhythm of the country: exploring the layered contrasts of #GeorgeTown through its colonial streets, contemporary art spaces, living heritage, and creative communities, from the art residence at Hin Bus Depot (@hinbusdepot) to the preserved traditions of the Teochew Puppet and Opera House (@teochewpuppetandoperahouse). At Seven Terraces (@seven_terraces_hotel) , we experienced one of Penang’s most beautifully preserved Peranakan heritage houses through its extraordinary collection of original antiques, furnishings, and historical artifacts, offering a deeper perspective into the cultural depth of the destination.

Elsewhere, mural-covered alleyways, fishing villages, local communities, and weathered architecture revealed a more intimate portrait of Malaysia beyond the polished luxury. The itinerary also led us by boat toward #Langkawi, where an afternoon at Tanjung Rhu Resort (@tanjungrhuresort_langkawi) unfolded against calm waters, limestone islands, and an almost meditative stillness that contrasted beautifully with the movement of the train itself. Passing through Ipoh and the historic Birch Memorial Clock Tower further revealed the country’s architectural and cultural layers.

What made the experience so memorable was not simply the train, but the way these excursions created meaningful firsthand encounters with Malaysia’s landscapes, people, traditions, and evolving creative identity through a distinctly curated lens. 🚃🚃🚃🪭🪭🪭🚤🚤🚤🛺🛺🛺🌴🌴🌴🏝🏝🏝 @belmond

<Travel> Few journeys today capture the romance of slow travel with the same sense of atmosphere and refinement as the Eastern & Oriental Express (@easternoriental) by @belmond. Earlier this spring, I embarked on the four-day journey from Singapore through the heart of Malaysia and back again, an experience that has stayed with me ever since. As the train moved through palm plantations, fishing villages, dense jungle landscapes, and quiet rural towns, the outside world gradually softened into a slower rhythm. Inside, polished wood interiors, velvet textures, soft lighting, and restored vintage details carried the glamour of another era, while the constantly shifting scenery gave the journey a rare sense of stillness and perspective. Each day unfolded between exceptional dining curated by Chef André Chiang (@andrechiang_sg), long afternoons in the open-air observation carriage, and evenings shaped by live music, champagne karaoke, and the gentle cadence of the rails. The introduction of Asia’s first onboard Dior Spa (@dior) reflects how the train continues to evolve beyond nostalgia into a contemporary expression of wellness, design, and slow luxury travel.

What remained with me most, however, was the remarkable attentiveness of the onboard team. Despite the intimacy of the cabins and the realities of life aboard a moving train, every detail was handled with warmth, precision, and elegance. By the final evening, the journey no longer felt defined by destination, but by the rare privilege of fully slowing down and becoming immersed in the experience itself. 🚃🚃🚃🪭🪭🪭🌴🌴🌴🛺🛺🛺
